Time Space and Meditation

Let us imagine we are seated in a chair perched upon a platform. When we look down at the platform, between our feet we see a large hole through which we can observe the activities in our lives. They are all beneath us, all of our activities, past, present and future. We imagine what we have seen through the hole is past, that upon which we gaze is the present and that which we have yet to observe is the future. Now, imagine the life beneath the platform is stationary but it is the platform that moves, giving us the impression the life below is somehow marching forward. As we peer from our seat atop the moving platform, we are completely convinced we are stationary. All at once the platform is withdrawn and we are suspended above all of the events below, past, present and future. Because there is no window beneath us to look through, everything is in our view at once. It was the platform obstructing our view that created the illusion of time, and its forward movement the impression of space. All of the events that occurred still exist, all possible outcomes we call potential still exist but narrowing our focus helps us to observe them more intensely. Then let us replace the platform and once again look through the window beneath our feet. Time and space will never again seem so fixed when we have seen beyond them. It is in meditation we transcend time and space, and after each occurrence, time and space will never again seem so rigid.

Time Space and Meditation – comment

I imagine your scenario as described, but in addition to the past, present, and future passing in a straight line below, as we pan up and view the entire tapestry, it is at least two dimensional. At any given point in time space we can chose to continue along a straight line past, present future, or we can chose to jut off on a new angle to a different set of futures or even leap to a different time space point. Our free will makes this choice.

Maybe you are already suggesting this potential, and I am just clarifying it in my mind. I envision the tapestry at least two dimensionally, and maybe even with three dimensions providing all possible pasts, all possible presents, and all possible futures in this and also parallel realities. At any given “moment” we can chose to be anywhere and anytime within any possible reality. We hold ourselves back. We aren’t ready for the resulting karma associated with such a quantum leap. We don’t believe in the Grace that would accompany us if we make such bold moves.

I really got off topic here. My main point is that every given present point or moment is connected to an infinite number of past and future points in time space. Free will gives us the opportunity to move throughout.
