Peace: The opportunity and reward
Peace is an interesting phenomenon. It is essentially a state of accord, an agreement between spirit, mind and action. True peace is not a cessation, it is not a compromise; it is a coordination of ideals, ideas and application. Conflict exists in direct proportion to the inharmony present. There are wars of all kinds, nation against nation, people against people, or simply a person at war with them self. The truly interesting thing about peace is it begins to neutralize conflict that is not even directly related to the activity in which it is being expressed. Consequently, the more peace there is in one part of the world, the more it begins to overpower the forces of conflict in all others. Likewise, the more peace there is in one life, the more conflict is neutralized in others. This occurs because peace feeds on collective harmony, while conflict feeds upon collective discord. The more that is fed in to the collective condition, the greater the accumulation of energy available for those of us who would draw from the well.
What have we fed in to the living consciousness of our world today? Have we been a force for peace or for conflict? To be at peace we must first know what our ideal is. Then we must conceptualize it in our daily doings. Finally we must apply these ideas in our activities throughout the day. Spiritual peace begins by coordination our ideal with the best that we know. If peace is our underlying motivation, we need then to use everything at our disposal to reason its application. If we are sufficiently devoted to our ideal we will wrestle with the task at hand to express it as best we are able. The forces of war will rise in proportion to our increased dedication, but if we persist we will be victorious. We will not only have brought harmony into our day but will have added to the collective goodness upon which all who aspire for peace may draw. This is accomplished one thought, and one act at a time.
Let us not be overwhelmed by the conflict around us but encouraged by the incredible power of peace. When we become consumed with the size of the journey, it is the forces of war that have taken our attention away from the single step before us. The road upon which we travel has no end, simply a direction. We must be devoted to that direction, one step at a time. In this we will change the world; one step, one person at a time.
