Monthly Letter: September 2010
There are enough minutes in every hour, hours in every day, and days in every year. Likewise, there are adequate blessings in every day for us to deal constructively with any experience we may encounter. Even in the most difficult of situations there is sufficient good that we may not simply rise above our experience but for us to soar like eagles. Our God, the source of perfect mercy, has promised to withhold from our lives that which we have not already been prepared to use constructively. This is grace, “Sufficient unto the day is the good – or the evil – thereof.”
We are often fixed upon quantity but there are no more blessings needed for our day than it has been filled with. Would a tree flourish if it received one month’s supply of rain in a single day? Of course not, for in nature, just as in our lives, more is rarely better. This should give us great comfort knowing our life is bathed in mercy. Not that our choices are limited but within each and every one is the seed of grace. Nothing we can choose is void of the potential for good because if it were, it would not be available to us. In our pain and suffering, we may often think of daily living as a punishment or a trial. However, life in the earth is neither, it is an experience, and we may choose the form the experience will have. However, life is God, and God is love, therefore we can choose an incredible variety of ways to experience Love.
Evil is the result of choice that leads to discord, resulting in a painful experience. The experience is no less valuable to each of us than if it were more pleasant or agreeable. Life flows continuously from our Lord, and whereas we may experience it in whatever form we wish, we cannot remove the potential for grace from it. This then is the sufficiency of the day, whatever we experience, is how we have chosen to express that living love we call the Infinite Spirit of God.
As we go out into this day let us remember it contains all we need. All that is necessary to make a blessing of the day is imbued in the spirit of our experience and nothing more need be added. What we have chosen to do with our God unfolds as the circumstances of the day, and what have we to fear from our Lord? Life is often a challenge but it is abundant in grace.
Above all, let us keep the faith in the perfect mercy of your Lord, and be well grounded in our daily doings.
May God bless you with the knowledge that you are the medium, the source of the blessing in your activities.
