Healing:Body-mind-spirit

We are triune in nature being comprised of a physical, mental and spiritual self. At our core is perfection, that original fragment of our Creator, that unspeakable holiness that it is our destiny to individualize. What we have done in spiritual realms, with regard to our holiness, is what comprises our spiritual self.  This is the first step in individualizing our divinity. This spiritual body is layered; experience upon experience, like a cosmic onion, each formed in the shape of the one beneath it. On our way to self awareness we took this spiritual body into the mental realms, and experience by experience we caused layers to take form over those spiritual ones that preceded them. Now these mental layers formed in the shape of the spiritual ones. Finally, we find the physical body which ultimately is formed in the shape of the mental layers that preceded it.

This may be an interesting depiction but how does it help us? Our attention is riveted on the physical so we do not often inspect what is beneath it. Where there is a happening, an irregularity, it most often is the result of what lies directly behind the event. Understanding how life is layered, we can assume the physical is conforming to the mental and spiritual. To assume the only form in which we can err is the physical is indeed shortsighted. Where there are irregularities in the physical it is likely to be the result of inconsistencies in the mental. Spirit spills out into the mental through our attitudes and emotions. Here we find the motivating forces in which our mental self takes root.

When our motives, mental activities and physical application are in unison, healthy creativity is the result. Where there is an incoordination, illness will naturally follow. We cannot change the result without addressing the cause no matter how uncomfortable we find our condition. The illness we suffer is a call to action; it is an opportunity to see we have an irregularity that underlies our physical activity. It is helpful, even merciful to find relief from pain and suffering but we perpetuate our illness if we do not correct the root cause of it. Because our attitudes and emotions bridge our spiritual and mental this might be an excellent place to begin. To simply suppress unproductive attitudes is to perpetuate illness. If we recognize those attitudes that cause us discord, then we will have the opportunity to consciously deal with them. There are mental activities we can perform to “make a medicine of the poison” but we need to be willing to put our hand to the handle to accomplish this. But first and foremost we must be willing. Negative attitudes simply need not be acted upon negatively. This takes work, it takes persistence, but eventually we will prevail. This is the promise of that tender loving kindness we call God.

In so many instances those activities that express kindness are magic; they are the means to turn straw into gold. The simplicity of this remedy obscures its incredible potency. We can put to flight eons of discord by simple acts of kindness to everyone we meet. If it is healing we desire, there is no rationalizing, no justifying, just kindness. Kindness is its own rationale, its own justification, and its own reward. As we go about just being kind, here a little, there a little, we will purge ourselves of those toxins that have built up in our physical, mental and spiritual bodies. In the end, we will find our body, mind and spirit in accord with that incredible holiness that comprises our foundation.
