Excerpted from Life and Death: The Pilgrimage of the Soul

Excerpted from Life and Death: The Pilgrimage of the Soul P.22

In the earth fear and selfishness were stirred up by the agony of separation and they were spreading on a massive scale. As the situation grew worse the focus of attention of the master souls needed to become narrower and narrower. As a result they moved closer and closer in consciousness to materiality. So close was their attention that they were often visible to the inhabitants of the earth. To those of us who beheld them they would have appeared at times to fade in fade out of sight. At such times they were visible although not solid. Such a proximity was necessary in order to work with the souls in torment and to manifest the pattern for salvation in the material realms closest to the earth. We find reference in the Edgar Cayce discourses that this period lasted some two hundred thousand years. As the work was completed in the realms surrounding the earth, few if any of the souls would allow themselves to rise from the depths even to become aware of what had been done. They were immersed in such darkness that the light would have to be brought to them in the lowest levels of materiality. Now the work which the patterns, the master souls, completed in the higher realms of materiality would have to be expressed by them in the lower ones.
